Best Wellington Beach Spots for Family Photos
Living in South Florida gives us incredible backdrops for family portraits, and as a local Concha Solutions Photography Services based right here in West Palm Beach, I often get asked where to go for the best beach-style scenery. While Wellington is famous for its equestrian roots, rolling green polo fields, and suburban parks, families living out here frequently want that classic sandy-shore aesthetic for their yearly portraits. Because Wellington itself is inland, the closest coastal stretches are a short drive east, offering gorgeous Atlantic Ocean views without a complicated trek.
Here are my favorite coastal spots within easy driving distance of Wellington that deliver stunning family portraits every single time.
Juno Beach Pier and Surrounding Dunes
If you want a mix of natural sea oats, weathered boardwalks, and wide Atlantic shorelines, Juno Beach is one of my absolute favorite locations. Located just northeast of Wellington via PGA Boulevard, this area gives you incredible textural variety in a single session. The rolling sand dunes create a natural framing device that looks gorgeous in wide-angle family shots, and the pier adds a distinct structural element in the background. It is especially picturesque during the golden hour, when the late afternoon sun catches the sea oats and casts a warm glow across the sand.
Dubois Park in Jupiter
Just a bit further north along the county line, Dubois Park offers a completely different flavor of coastal family photography. While it does feature a stunning stretch of sandy beach along the Jupiter Inlet, it also boasts historic structures, calm turquoise waters, and lush tropical foliage including massive banyan trees. This spot is a lifesaver for families with very young children or toddlers who might be intimidated by crashing ocean waves. The protected inlet areas provide a calm, mirror-like reflection during low tide, making it exceptionally versatile for both candid family sessions and maternity photography.

Ocean Reef Park on Singer Island
For families looking for a slightly more rugged, natural beach look without traveling too far from Palm Beach County‘s central corridor, Ocean Reef Park on Singer Island is a hidden gem. It features lovely coquina rock formations scattered along the shoreline, which add wonderful texture and visual interest to portrait compositions. The native Australian pines and sea grape trees line the back of the beach, offering lovely dappled shade when we start a session a bit earlier in the afternoon. It tends to be a bit quieter than some of the heavily commercialized municipal beaches, giving us more breathing room to let kids run and play naturally.
Essential Tips for Your Coastal Family Session
Planning a successful beach portrait session takes a little bit of local know-how. Here are a few practical strategies to keep in mind:
- Timing: Aim for the hour right before sunset. The harsh midday South Florida sun creates unflattering shadows, whereas golden hour light is soft, flattering, and forgiving.
- Wardrobe: Skip matching white shirts and khaki pants. Instead, choose a cohesive color palette of three to four complementary tones, such as soft blues, muted sage, and sandy neutrals, and choose fabrics that move well in the ocean breeze.
- Posing and Interaction: Don’t worry about stiff, formal posing. The best family photos happen when you are walking together along the shoreline, tickling your kids, or splashing in the shallows.
- Planning for the Elements: Bring a towel and a change of dry clothes for the little ones just in case someone decides to go for an impromptu swim in the Atlantic.
